Guy Shirra arrived in Hong Kong in 1967 as a Probationary Inspector of Police fresh from a VSO teaching post in Sarawak. After a 3 month Cantonese course, he was thrown in the deep end of the 1967 leftist insurgency
He served in CID and Special Branch and commanded in Tsim Sha Tsui and both the West Kowloon Emergency and Tactical Units before taking voluntary early retirement from the Royal HK Police in June 1997.
Guy was awarded the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct in 1973 and is the author of "The Accidental Prawn" and "The Little Red Swear Book".
