A number of Rotarians paid tribute to John, one of the consistent quiet achievers on whom service Clubs rely.John Seddon had the good fortune to follow behind John Wallace as President back in 1974, and fondly recalled seeing him and Jean in action. He was advised by John "if you don't do any reports you will never make District Governor". John Seddon said that he didn't, and he wasn't.
John's involvement extends from a role with Rotahomes in Fiji, to more local causes. Peter Stechman who for many years organised the book sale noted that John has been "the man behind the scenes who organises the tools". It was noted this year just before lockdown the team ran out of sorting boxes, so they were pleasantly surprised to discover empty boxes that John had dropped off after every trip to town during lockdown, having anticipated the flurry of activity that would occur after it ended. Also a wood man, Mike Lord noted that doing the firewood logs this year at Berwick, John turned up at the end of the day with his Prado to load to bring back for cutting up. After his 49 years of contributions to the Club, John is still looking for ways to contribute and fill the gaps that creates success for projects.
We reckon he may be nearly the last member of the Club to consistently wear a tie on Clubnights. And members are appreciative of the John's efforts to keep the club happy with purchases for the bar, especially whisky.
