About thirty years ago the Rotary Club did a survey on the industrial area of Mosgiel. see photo.
The area is Gladstone Rd south from Z down to JJ Tractors,Down Mc Glashan St to Des Grey Motors and Gow St from Mosgiel Kitchens to RJ Stewart Earth Moving.
At that stage there was about 250 workers.
On a resent survey I did this is what I found.
There are sixty two individual places of work employing over 500 workers. The types of industries include accounting,double glazing,physio,tractor sales,wool brokers,caravan sales,fibrous plastering,towing,driving instruction,glass house manufacture ,to name a few
You will all remember how the Club supported Dylan Lloyd;
Pictured on the right is Dylan with the Bocce set that his family were able to buy for him with help from the Mosgiel Rotary Club and two club members. Dylan is afflicted with muscular dystrophy and is confined to his wheelchair. He competes in Bocce at a high level and travels all around the country to take part. Until now he has had to use borrowed sets and they have varied in standards. Dylan is delighted to have his own set.
This has been a really worthwhile cause as Dylan is a neat young man with such a cheerful disposition; he is always polite, friendly and has a delightful smile.
Editor's note.
Thanks Brian for this contribution, Dylan certainly has a lovely smile of appreciation. We all wish him every success in his chosen sport.
For our special meeting for Christmas last Monday we all went to the Beach. No body got sand on their shoes and ventured. on to the Beach. So nobody had to be rescued
While we watched from the clubhouse the surfers were having a wonderful time.
