Change over night was an enjoyable evening with Jonathan Usher providing some humorous entertainment with his magic show. From getting several Rotarians playing Happy Birthday on musical chimes to $10 into $20, it was a night fill of fun and laughter.
Merv Cearwater welcomed in our new President, Rod Craw. We are all looking forward to the new Rotarian year "Unite for Good". Rod shared his ideas and vision for the year.
Call for volunteers to help with two more plantings:
5 August, Tuesday afternoon
Polytech students are planting the Silverstream bank at the end of Alpine Close where an alleyway joins the Silverstream walkway. The students are due to start at 1pm so I need 4 or 5 helpers to be there at 12 noon. The holes will be marked out and I need 2 or 3 guys to dig out a square of turf at each spot. Merv (or other strong fellow) will use the motorized auger to dig the hole.
Others will help lay out the plants, compost, guards, mats and stakes etc. Those who have to get away early can leave around 1 pm, but it would great if 2 or 3 can stay to help with the planting and tidy up. We should all be away by 3pm.
12 August, Tuesday morning
Amana school has a section near the end of Reid St. Park there and walk down towards Gordon Rd. They are due to start planting at 9.30 or 10 am, so we need to be there by 8.30 or 9 am (exact times to be confirmed).
Routine as above. We should all be away by 12 noon.

A huge Thank You to the St Kilda Community Library for the donation of books for our forthcoming book sale. We received 167 banana boxes of books plus 6 boxes of puzzles, of the 167 boxes, 14 boxes are large print books of various authors and titles. This is a significant number on previous years for large print books.
The St Kilda Community Library was a volunteer-run institution was established in 1914 known for being 'unplugged' and community focused, officially closed its door on 31 July 2025. The new South Dunedin Library and Community Complex, known ad Te Whata o Kaituna, is opening to replace St Kilda Library's role in the community.
