Captains Log. 12/8/24

 

Monday nights meeting was a slightly smaller group but non the less it was a good night.  Sergeant Stu had a dew questions, and no doubt left the club coffers enriched after fining most members for a variety of misdemeanours. Over the last couple of years there has been ongoing discussions about our meeting venue concerns have been raised about the quality of meals and the temperature over winter this has caused problems for some members. I have been looking at other revues with support from Dave Brown and John Seddon.  The opportunity has become available to mover to the Lounge/bar area at the Taieri Bowling Club in Wickliffe Street after a quick explanation to the Club, Austen Banks moved a notion and this was seconded and passed by unopposed.  This will take effect fro our next meeting.  We would like to thanks Noelle and her team at the racecourse for this hospitality and we appreciate being able to continue to use this facility for our annual book sale. We were all interested to hear our quest speaker Amy Scott, a very gifted communicator who trains people in many different organisation where she delivers workshops to help people understand their communication style.  She identified a number of personality traits within the club.  Neville and Colin definitely "Purple", Fraser "yellow" the rest a combination.

The Directors had a quick meeting to discuss the "Building Better Communities" Fund Raising.  I believe the only possibility would be if we did it jointly with Taieri but they have dismissed the idea entirely. It was agreed by all that didn't fit well within our club so have also dismissed the idea.

Donald and I had the pleasure of helping Burleigh Heads Rotary Club at one of their regular fundraising events, a Bunnings BBQ.  We lost count of the number of sausages and onions that we cooked and sold. At one stage we couldn't keep up with the sales demand.  Selling at $3.50 per sausage, plus drinks, $2,500 was raised over the 6 hour period. Then BBQ certainly provided an excellent opportunity to show case the work Rotary is doing in the community, especially when the clubs branded van was parked next to the BBQ area.

 

 

 

As for meeting weekly or fortnightly that will be decided before Day light Saving begins.
