Captains Log Monday 10 th Feb
It was a good turnout of members especially as we still have quite a number away either
sunning themselves in Queensland or freezing in Antarctica.
Dave Brown gave us an update on the Mosgiel sign and we have a team going up there on
Sunday to clear gorse and spray weeds and prepare everything for Spraying Wet and Forget
on Monday.
Jill Craw once again has done a marvellous job writing the names of all the year 4 students
in the Dictionaries that we will be presenting to them shortly. This is one of our fulfilling
projects as its wonderful to see how each Childs eyes light up when you call their name and
pass them their Dictionary. A special Thanks Jill for your hard work.
You will all be pleased to know that we have located the missing Microphone and it is back
with Bill Botting, so Neville can now rest easy.
Once again, I think that we can all agree that Paul the Caterer did a marvellous job preparing
all those salads and the Ham on the bone. A few that I have spoken to including myself
would rather go back for seconds than have a dessert afterwards. I would like to suggest to
Paul that we only have a main and no dessert keep the price at $25 as it is good value as I
know other clubs pay more for a single course. If you have any thoughts on this matter let
me know.
As Graham Beach alluded to our guest speaker would give a hugely insightful talk on a
highly topical Israel/Palestine conflict. Professor Rex Adhar gave us a breakdown of the
History going back to the Ottoman Empire then following the First World War how the Balfour
Declaration established a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine after the British
Forces had conquered Palestine. Since that time in 1917 there has always been conflict
between the Jewish people and the Arabs leading to numerous Wars. The latest conflict
starting in 2023 with no peaceful solution in sight. I know we all have opinions as who is to
blame but Donald Trump aside, I don’t think there is an easy solution.
Keep in mind next Monday coffee at Black Sheep however some of us will be at the Mosgiel
Sign. The next meeting is Monday 24 th with our RYLA candidate doing her presentation
followed by a Directors Meeting.
Give me feed back on whether you want/need dessert. Until then have a good week.
