Books are used for more than reading and we will remember people pressing flowers, four leaf clovers and things in them. But other things are often kept in them like interesting paper cuttings, family photos, exchange vouchers, and family notes and as Danna found love letters, etc.

At the book sale all manner of things that had been used for book marks fell out of books. But there would be many things that we would have missed unless we thumbed through every book.

The story of the week was about a gentleman who arrived at our local  Westpac bank asking if paper $100 notes ( we now have plastic ones) were still valuable as legal tender. The bank Manager had pleasure in telling him they were still worth $100 .

With a smile on his face he said I have found four of them in a book he had bought at a book sale and he considered it a good return on his investment buying some books.

Any book bought for $2 is a bargain some more than others.

Other amusing things like finding "Good Wives" in the animal section; and whether  the 1992 report on the Dunedin  foreshore development should have been in the fiction section?

It was also interesting to find Eric's Irish joke book in the sale  and the story above could be like the story about Mullarkey who visited the Doctor.

"What's wrong with you " Asked the Doctor. "Two years ago, Doctor,  I swallowed two silver coins, and I want you to do something about them". ' Heavens man, why didn't you come to me two years ago?"

"Sure , doctor, I didn't need the money until now."
