Daffodil contest 2018 Attached is a montage photo of all the daffodils with the winning ones marked 1st overall was Fraser Ellis 1st in the greenery only section was Warren. Here are John’s comments. John and Lex considered No. 5 to be the winner,, No. 8 for the best foliage (most even growth). Comments from John which should help us take better photos next year. Hint – Full frontals are the best – just the flower, though, not the grower The basis for this judgement is the problem with the photography, as not all the petals were visible (what I cannot see, I cannot judge) John also thought there was a problem with the quality of the bulbs this year. In the trade, we would call these "naturalising quality" rather than flowering size bulbs which come in as DN1 (single nose) or DN2 (double nose). I think the bulbs were stored too long, too warm and lost vigour and that impacted their growth. It is good to know that those that didn’t flower can be planted out in the garden and will probably flower next year. Thanks Irene |
