ROTARY DISTRICT 9980 SPEECH COMPETITION 2019
We had two Taieri Students who were finalists of the speech contest and the worthy winner was Mia Warman, runner-up was Zack Henry, If we are sending her to the area selection for the district competition the rules below will be applied. She will need to be advised of these rules and alter her speech to comply. Hopefully this will be done.Mia in the photo receiving her certificate from the judge, Kathryn Duncan from Toast Masters.

What are the basic rules for students entering the contest?
- Contestants may be in Year 12 or 13 and attend school within District 9980.
- Contestants can choose their own topic, but the speech must be based on the application of the Four Way Test, with the principles running clearly throughout the entire speech and not just reserved for concluding statements.
- The time is to be no less than five minutes and no more than six minutes. A warning bell will be sounded at the end of five minutes and a final bell at the end of six minutes.
- Three judges and a timekeeper are needed for each contest.
- The use of microphone, palm cards and visual aids are options open to each contestant.
- Finalists will compete at the District Conference, which is held mid- May, and a commitment is required for them to be present at this.
