Last Monday we were priviledged to have a presentation from Norcombe Barker who is the Managing Director of Larnachs Castle, Dunedin's leading tourism destination.Historically the Castle has provided challenges since the Barkers bought the Castle in the late 1960s and began the work of restoration which continues to this day. It was very interesting hearing of the decades long cycle of strategic planning of the development and maintenance of the Castle and its grounds to international standard. And the focus on the unique stories which bring the Castle to life.
The challenges of a roaring Cruise season followed by Covid has provided unforeseen challenges to the contend with and time to reassess business strategy, with a desire to future focus on the quality of experience for the tourists, and the implications of a similar development in focus for the wider Dunedin tourism industry.
A very interesting interesting evening indeed.
