Irene went to the District 9980 Day in Cromwell on last Saturday. The pumpkins from the polio competition were huge.

Well the Growing is over and the winners are
Tony Brown and Nicola Brown of Wanaka - (not related) with a whopping 162kg Monster
2nd place went to Jim Carroll, President of Alexandra Rotary with 135.5kg
3rd place went to the team from Golden view Village in Cromwell. 109.5kg
Honourable mentions go to AG- Ah-Lek Tay of Dunedin with 78kg, Gordon Stewart of Cromwell with 80kg, David Boustead of D9999 with 54.5 kg.
the best single plant went to Michael Horne - President of Waimate with 208kg spread across 4 pumpkins
What we have learnt is Central Otago is the best place to grow giant pumpkins in our district.
But now is time for the real work, as the weights are now known, it’s time to dig deep and rattle the tin and call in the pledges.
Our Goal is
$33,334.00
raised from Polio donations within our district, this will be matched 2:1 by the Gates Foundation and will bring us to a total of
$100,000.00
that equates to roughly $33.00 per member.
I know that each of our members is $35.00 better off from Rotary this year as the District did take take the levy for the 2nd half year, some may be back with members and some may still be with clubs.
I challenge each and every Rotarian to consider contributing what would have been your district levy and donate $35.00 and lets smash the goal.
Clubs that reach 100% personal giving of at least $10.00 p/m will be recognized as a Bill Boyd - End Polio Now Club.
