Captains Log for Monday 29 May
Did she meet the king? Irene Mosley gave us an illustrated talk on her trip to London especially for the coronation of King Charles lll, but making it a round-the-world trip she visited friends, relations and interesting places along the way.
The pomp and pageantry, England seems to do better than anyone so no surprise that the whole tourist manufacturing turned out masses of product to sell for this event. Ten days out, then everything seem to happen, Coronation chicken sandwiches and even a giant “Charley” made out of lego bricks, flags and bunting everywhere. Irene met up with a friend and went on a London bus tour and to Hyde Park for the concert the night before the coronation.
Moving on - a trip to the York Minster in the northern city of York where she saw the new statue of Queen Elizabeth ll, which was finished just after the Queens death. Then on to Scotland, not so much was made of the coronation there, but she took the chance to visit the Roslyn Chapel where the Film of the Da Vinci code was made. This film location made a lot of money from tourists so they could rebuild the 15th Century Chapel.
Did she meet Charles - no, but she got to know him a bit better.

Colin Mackintosh - spoke on the Silverstream project, our club having just received a $15,000 grant from the ORC Eco Fund to be used for this project.
The Charitable Trust is donating 200 native trees to the Taieri College to be planted by them at the Sinclair Wetlands in early June. The Silverstream project has sold some surplus plants to the Alexandra Rotary Club for one of their projects. There may be more orders for plants to come.
Irene spoke on the Friendship Exchange visit to central North Island clubs in district 9930 setting off from Hamilton, possibly September / October. Members from district 9980 are invited to spend some days with a Rotarian host and for 15 days visiting places of interest. Contact Peter Williams on 0274891939 for more information.
