Senior Sergeant Dylan Murray is back in uniform in his role, after spending about 13 years as a detective. I was always sneaking back into uniform whenever I got the chance." The role of senior sergeant was one he had been working towards his entire career, and he was grateful for the opportunity.. – Now Officer in Charge for Rural South Canterbury; he has been 28 years in the NZ Police including overseas service in the Solomon Islands (2005)
Murray was born in Timaru and completed his secondary studies at Timaru Boys' High School, before going to Otago University to get a degree in economics.
Dylan has furthered his tertiary education, gaining diplomas in both accounting and business studies.  The analytical skills he has developed are put to good use in his police work, and helpful for Rotary. He said he was leading by example in what he thought a good police officer should do - be an active part of the community, so they cared about the community they worked in.
Outside of his job,Dylan is a keen basketballer in his home town of Waimate, plays golf and is treasurer of the Maungati Golf Club. However, he said his handicap was not publishable. "It's pretty average."
He completed a very satisfying year as President of the Rotary Club of Waimate. 
 Has been over 8 years as a Rotary member, including leading a team of Rotarians to Turkey in a “Peace is Possible” initiative in 2016.
