Captains Log 21-10-24

This week at Rotary was a highlight of our calendar year. The annual Taieri College speech competition. Jarrod Cone an English teacher from the college said this was his 20^th year bringing students along for the speech competition. We had four very capable students, Rachel Waters, Aiden Smith, Sneha Kasibhatla and Holley Pool. They all had different subjects but the winner on the night was Rachel Waters. Her subject was “Should children be on social media?” Her speech was clear and easy to understand, and she finished right on the seven-minute mark. Rob Van Abs filled the Sergeant’s role and seemed to be able to extract a good few dollars from everyone present and even some of the parents who had come for the speech night felt the need to donate. Not wanting to sound like a broken record but the caters had provided a very nice meal again which left us with no shortage of food and the quality was first class. It’s a pleasure to go to Rotary when we have good food good friends and a warm room. The year is passing quickly by and before we know it Christmas will be upon us. It would be great to see you all again in a fortnight on the forth of November
