Captains Log for Monday 17th April

It was a very full and busy evening with all of us excited to see the new swimming pool for this special preview opening. (see photos above)Irene welcomed us at the door and Michaela, the pool team leader showed us around, explaining the workings of everything and answering our many questions. 

The main swimming pool, 25 M long heated to 28 ºC to the spa pool heated to 38 ºC. The hydrotherapy pool is wheelchair accessible and toddler and children’s pools will be well used by all members of the community. The large number of pellet fuelled boilers provide the heating for everything and the health of all the pool water is monitored constantly by electronic sensors - all impressive state of the art technology.

Everyone will be eagerly awaiting the opening scheduled for late June.

Wingatui Racecourse, for our first meeting, was I understand, where we had our meetings there many years ago before my time. 31 of us enjoyed the spacious surroundings with a lovely meal. A couple of teething issues including the sound system which I couldn’t work too well. No speakers on the night as we went on to the Mill Creek Crematorium owned by Campbell & Sons, where “the boss” Clark Campbell showed us their new premises. 

The modern “Farewell lounge” provided ample seating in a relaxing soundproof room where Clark explained the cremation process, the crematory is state of the art and linked to a management centre in the USA. By inputting various details, the process is automatically adjusted, giving off no smoke. A growing 15% of people now prefer cremation to a traditional burial.

The emphasis is always on the compassionate and personal care that the four generations of Campbells have always given us.
