Captains Log

With our president still away, you had me again this week.

Our speakers this week were our own Ross Hill and David Brown who together gave a talk on their 5 week experiences taking their new motor-homes from Auckland up and down the country. First going up to the Bay of Islands, 90 mile beach, visiting the gold fields of Thames, going to Rotorua, Taupo and tasting the famous fish and chips in Whanganui they also visited the Kauri tree parks with their ancient trees.

Unfortunately both experienced problems with their engines, having to be towed out of Piha and branches falling on the roof and taking out Dave’s satellite dish.  Down to Wellington they took the ferry through the Cook Strait to Picton and so on making their way home.  Their enthusiasm is undimmed.

Graham Beach reported on the “Dictionaries for schools”,  240 beautifully inscribed books by Janice Botting, were donated to the 9 schools in our area. Graham also reported on the combined local Rotary clubs putting out the Wasp bait traps with our team of 4 setting them out in the Olveston House area. They will be retrieved next Sunday.
