ERIC CHAPMAN SHAW (Sandy) 1935-2021 PHF.
It with great regret that we record the death of Eric on Tuesday Morning the 8th of June 2021.
Paul Harris Fellow, Eric made a tremendous contribution to all aspect of the Rotary Club of Mosgiel as a member for over half a century.
A true gentleman, with a wealth of historical knowledge and as a valuable resource about the district and the Rotary club he is sorely missed
He was highly regarded as a valuable member of the Mosgiel community and throughout New Zealand by those who were privileged to know him.
Eric resigned as an active member of our club in 2018 and was elected an Honorary Member before leaving for Ashburton.
Eric became a Rotarian in March 1962, just before his 27th birthday. He was President in 1973-74. He followed his Father Albie who was President 1957-58. Over the years he served as a Director and in most rolls and club committees, also assisting in District activities, associated with Youth support. As well as Rotary He had a formidable list of organisations he supported like:- Life Education Trust, St John, Club Captain Taieri Rugby, Otago Youth Adventure Trust. etc. etc.
As a plumber he also took a leadership roll in industry matters and became National President  of the NZ Plumber's Merchants Ltd  (Plumbing World New Zealand.)for 10 years He was a life member of the Otago Master Plumbers Association.
His governance skills benefited the club when it came to by-laws, constitution matters, and general leadership advice to new club officers.

Eric was visible overwhelmed when he received the honour of Honorary Member of the Club but did so with his usual humility and respect. As he reads the certificate he recollects on his many happy years of service through Rotary, and a major chapter in his life.
Eric's involvement in Rotary lead to other lifetime interests like race horses.
Many years ago a committee of six was set up to run RYLA for the District.
Eric lead the group who organised a successful RYLA. But by chance the team had a common interest in race horses so they formed a syndicate to buy a horse which lead to buying more and is still operating today but only two of the original members John Wallace, and Peter Stechman are left and winning the odd race.
Eric's funeral will be at Campbells at 11.30am Saturday Morning June 12th.
Our deepest Sympathy goes out to Carol and all the Family.
