President's Message
Jackie Muir
Hi everyone
It has been another very busy week and good to see those of you who were able to make it to Rotary last week - another lovely meal at Forum and a wee quiz in lieu of our speaker forgetting she was going to Queen!
Steve reported that there will be several trips cancelled due to the recent rains but others are going ahead and they are going well - Stewart Island this Sunday.  Thank you to all you dedicated people organising trips and going along as leaders.

The club needs more members so please bring along anyone that may be interested .
This Monday is a BBQ tea at Colin Calteaux's.  BYO bucket including some food plate, utensils etc.  Also bring along your partners and friends.

Conference is looming please keep the 17/18th April free to help and support our District and go on line and register.  See you on Monday.
Jackie
Stories
Two Minute Spot
Steve McLay shared with us the story of Sea Legs taking another company to court over copyright of the amphibious mechanism.
After appeal the other company won and this means the amphibious industry is now wide open.
Thanks, Steve, for sharing this interesting story.

District Conference 2020
District Conference 2020 is a conference with a difference and our South Otago communities are are going to benefit!

In keeping with the ‘people of action’ catch cry and the year’s theme ‘Rotary connects the World’ It is timely to introduce a project day. By making use of the people resource of attendees, coupled with an agreed funding amount we will be able to benefit our community agencies and organisations and raise the profile of Rotary.

The organising committee is keen to make this a grass roots style conference that is family friendly and very affordable. Rotarians are encouraged to bring children, including grown up ones, and grandchildren along to show how they are making a difference.

Rotarians from all around District 9980 will be involved in carrying out projects in our communities.  Both Milton Rotary and Balclutha Rotary have put forward funding to support projects ranging from painting at a child care centre, planting trees, digging gardens and making curtains, to name a few.

Lots of person-power is required to help make this a success.  The cost of the conference is being kept to a minimum and a programme is also being developed for children under 15.

What is needed now is for Rotarians to register - lots of hands are needed for this to be a success, and our town is definitely going to benefit.  Here's the link to the online registration - https://www.rotary9980conference.org/pre-register-now

Let's get a great representation from the Rotary Club of Milton!  Register online now!

Forum Café – meeting venue trial

We have held two meetings at the Forum Cafe and been provided with wonderful meals in a lovely environment.
We are planning on having our 9 March meeting in this venue - 24 Feb meeting is a Colin Calteaux's - then we will make a decision about whether or not we stay at the cafe.
Come along and enjoy a wonderful meal, and great company, as we hold our Milton Rotary Club Meetings.
Rotary Tramping Trips
The weather has played havoc with the current tramping / cycling trips, however, many have gone ahead as planned.
Robin reported on a great group of 18 having recently completed the Clutha Gold.  Jenny had a full  group at Aspiring - another very successful trip.
The Alexandra Rotary Club members went to Aspiring the following week and got stuck do to the river rising.  Some flew out by helicopter, others stayed for almost a week.
Lucky Jenny had left some spare food there!
Suzie has just had a group on the A2O and she is now off to Stewart Island with another trip.

Thank you to all those members of the club, and to members of the wider tramping club, who give their time and organisation to run these trips - a fabulous opportunity for people to explore the wonders of our part of the world.

New Rotary Club Members
We are on the look-out for more members for our Rotary Club.
If you know of anyone you think may be interested, bring them along to a meeting.
We are keen to extend our web wider!
