Jackie Muir
Hi All
March already and the countdown is on to conference.  The theme for Saturday Night is 'People of Action' so let's have a think about what we can dress as and if you have not registered please do so.
Thankyou Colin and Lyn for hosting us for the BBQ - it was a fantastic night and a great turn out. This week we are back at Forum for dinner at 6 and then we are going to hear from three lovely young people from Toko High who have experienced  some amazing adventures with the support of Rotary.

Following the meeting can Directors please stay for 5 mins and then anyone is welcome to come to Steve Woodheads for the conference meeting.

Look forward to seeing you all Monday
Have a good weekend
Jackie

Stories
Thank you Colin and Lynne

Our last meeting was a social get together at Colin and Lynne's. It was great to see a really good turn-out of members and their partners. It was lovely to be able to spend the evening together, enjoying great food and company.
Thank you for a lovely evening, Colin and Lynne - love your new house!  Thanks too to David Vollweiler for the venison.

Next Meeting - 9 March
Our next meeting is this coming Monday at Forum Cafe - we have three young people coming to share their experiences with us – two went to Outward Bound over the summer and one at the National Science and Technology Forum.

We will be having a short meeting at Forum Cafe.  Once the boys have done their presentations we will adjourn to Stephen Woodhead’s house for a Conference meeting with the Conference team from Balclutha.

District Conference 2020
District Conference 2020 is a conference with a difference and our South Otago communities are are going to benefit!

In keeping with the ‘people of action’ catch cry and the year’s theme ‘Rotary connects the World’ It is timely to introduce a project day. By making use of the people resource of attendees, coupled with an agreed funding amount we will be able to benefit our community agencies and organisations and raise the profile of Rotary.

The organising committee is keen to make this a grass roots style conference that is family friendly and very affordable. Rotarians are encouraged to bring children, including grown up ones, and grandchildren along to show how they are making a difference.

Rotarians from all around District 9980 will be involved in carrying out projects in our communities.  Both Milton Rotary and Balclutha Rotary have put forward funding to support projects ranging from painting at a child care centre, planting trees, digging gardens and making curtains, to name a few.

Lots of person-power is required to help make this a success.  The cost of the conference is being kept to a minimum and a programme is also being developed for children under 15.

What is needed now is for Rotarians to register - lots of hands are needed for this to be a success, and our town is definitely going to benefit.  Here's the link to the online registration - https://www.rotary9980conference.org/pre-register-now

Let's get a great representation from the Rotary Club of Milton!  Register online now!

Violence in Syria

FAMILIES ARE RUNNING OUT OF PLACES TO GO
Nearly 1 million people have been forced to flee their homes in Syria since December. This is the largest exodus of civilians since the violence started 9 years ago.
As the threat of military action from the Turkish government looms over Idlib, more families are preparing to leave their homes in search of safety.
Right now, families in Syria desperately need your help. In some parts of the country, there’s snow on the ground and items like thermal blankets could save lives.

Shelterbox are working to help these people.
