Our speaker for this coming Monday is District Governor Elect Tania Lowery who hails from the Balclutha Club. This weekend a number of us are going to the District Conference at Oamaru which has some excellent speakers and activities to look forward to including tours of Dots Castle and the Tempero motor body workshop. On Monday 17 December we held a xmas dinner and fundraising auction in the canteen at Tokomairiro High School. Although our numbers were a bit low, we had a wonderful evening and raised more than $1500 in the auction.
A special thank you must go to Jackie Muir, and her helpers, for the wonderful meal - lamb (donated by David and Helen Vollweiler), ham and a great selection of salads and vegetables. This was followed by dessert consisting of pavlovas and trifle. It was a lovely evening and a nice way to finish off the year.
Early December, Macy Bisset returned from her year in Denmark as a Rotary Youth Exchange student. We are thrilled to welcome her home and looking forward to hearing of the wonderful experiences she had in her year away. I am sure she will have some great stories to tell us.
This week we are pleased to welcome four members of the Rotary Club of St Kilda who are coming along to share a project they are involved in. The club are selling beautiful Central Otago pinot noir as a fundraiser and there will be an opportunity for our club members to purchase some.
Project Bruce are keen to hear from people who would like to become Civil Defence volunteers and be prepared to help out at the Civil Defence bases in the case of an emergency in Milton or the wider Bruce District. If you are interested, Project Bruce want to hear from you. Training will be provided by Civil Defence staff.
