Stories
Peter Vollweiler
Club's First Triple Paul Harris Sapphire
On the evening of the 31st October Brendon and Suzie and myself met with Bruce and Karen Vollweiler and Bruce's sister Penny to present Peter with his Triple Sapphire PHF. This was a first for the club and it was presented in recognition for the amazing amount of work Peter has put in over the years starting and building the Tramping Club. The first trip was in 1986 and currently we run about 25 trips a year with on average 7-800 participants. This work is shared with some members of the Otago Youth Adventure Trust and the profits each year are divided evenly between The Rotary Club of Milton and The Otago Youth Adventure Trust. To date nearly $2,000,000 has been raised and thousands of people have been able to enjoy the tramping and cycling trips we organise. For many years Peter did almost all the organising on his own spending, many hours a week in his office and he seemed to have an uncanny knack of remembering almost all the people who came on the trips. In 2001 we conned Peter and Flora in to attending the Rotary Conference in Invercargill where he was presented with a "Service Above Self" award. You may be able to see from the photo that Peter is wearing his medals including a Queens Service Medal!
Sadly as I write this I have just heard that Peter passed away in his sleep (Tuesday 13th Morning) so our presentation was just in time! All members of the club have benefited from knowing Peter in many different ways and we thank him for all he did for the club and the young people of Otago. We send our condolences to the Vollweiler family as they come to terms with Peter's passing.
AGM
The club held it's AGM at the meeting on the 5th November. Some of the key points from the meeting are as follows:
1.   Club Accounts. These were presented by Treasurer Suzie and the amounts to note are. Club a/c balance   $4975.00   Trust a/c  balance  $73086.03  Last year the income was $18959.90 and the expenses were $13984.10 (Club)  Thanks to Suzie for the work she does as treasurer.
2. President Elect  Jackie Muir,  followed by Ross Pringle for the 2020/21 year.  Secretary  is Kerry Dowling, Treasurer  Suzie Bearman. The Trustees for the Trust are the current Board of Directors and the club representatives on the Otago Youth Adventure Trust/Milton Rotary Tramping Club are Steve McLay, Rob Wilton and Janine Dunlop.
The club is grateful to these members for putting their hand up!

There is to be an information afternoon in the Coronation Hall on Saturday 17th November. Everyone is invited.

Alice Muir's children's books are available from Jackie @ $15 each. Contac Jackie to order.
Milton A and P show is on Saturday 8th December. Directors will decide if we are to be represented.
Beware of Rotary fake emails. I haven't seen any but some people have been hit.
There will be a working bee at Tautuku probably in the new year. Tiff and John M are organising this.
Bronwyn reported on the Health night. It was a very good evening with some excellent speakers, but sadly the attendance was poor.
Steve reported on the Targa Rally . The marshalling on the West Otago section was very successful and the club raised $1000. Thanks to all those that took part.

Passing of PDG Andrew Meek
It is a sad duty to inform members of the passing of PDG Andrew Meek. Andrew was a much loved Rotarian who was DG in 2001-2002. Our thoughts are with Rosemary as she faces the future without Andrew. He served this district well.
District 9980 Bulletin
A message from District Governor, Andrew Hamilton
DG Andrew visits the club this coming Monday. This will be a partners night so please let's give Andrew a warm welcome.
The last two months have flown by quickly with Club Visits being one of the main areas of focus for Barbara and me. To date we have visited 24 Clubs. As I mentioned in the last newsletter, the Club Visits are without a doubt a highlight of the District Governor role. Getting to know fellow Rotarians and hearing and seeing the amazing jobs the Clubs undertake in their local and global communities is a privilege.

There are some great stories in the latest District 9980 Bulletin - check out the online version here: http://bit.ly/Rotary9980bulletin

Parting Thought
Peter Mallon gave the parting thought but before that he gave a two minute talk about items he had made for his grandchildren from Carisbrook Rimu. Peter passed around a Pen Holder and a beautiful box he had made for each of his grandchildren. Well done Peter!
Parting thought    "It is useful to be reminded of your place:
and to recognise just how much you still have to learn:
and how much you will never know."
