Presidents message

Hello Rotarians,

We had a very successful morning on Saturday collecting for the Child Cancer appeal, thank you John M, Colin, Peter M and Boyce. A total of $204 was collected. I’m told a good turnout at firewood working bee on Monday resulted in progress whittling the pile down, another two nights to finish?

Mayor Bryan Cadogan is our speaker next week. Bryan will update us on Milton matters and comment on the Governments Three Waters Review.

To avoid a clash with the upcoming Otago Anniversary day and Easter we have decided to meet two Mondays in a row (8th and 15th) before going back to our two weekly cycle. The 15th suits Lucy Coutts, we sponsored Lucy so she could attend Rotary Young-Person Leadership Awards  (RYLA) We look forward to meeting Lucy.

See you Monday.

Stories
Speaker - Colin Brown
Thank you to Mosgiel Rotarian Colin for sharing his stories with us.  It was fascinating to hear of his experiences in the US through the time he spent growing his business, Tracmaps – a GPS guidance system tracking trucks spreading fertilizer. He shared some of the characteristics he found prevalent in the American people and his thoughts about the US elections.

Life in Retirement – he is so busy he doesn’t get time to be bored!  Enjoying cycling, among other things.  Just completed the A2O with a Milton Rotary trip.  Thank you, Colin,  for an entertaining talk.

Firewood

Firewood working Bee – these have continued to be held at McLay boats on Monday evenings. Thank you to all those who have given their time to help out.

McNally's Track Clean-up
McNally’s Track clean-up – thanks to Suzie, John T, Ross, David, & Stephen.  The track is looking good.  Don’t ask John Taal about the chip in the chain of his new saw – after it hit a rock!
A2O Cycle Trip
The first of the Milton Rotary Otago Youth Adventure Tramping Club trips took place a couple of weeks ago.
It was a very successful trip.  The weather was kind and there was a great crew – well organized, good accommodation and great comradery.  Colin Brown reported that the four leaders did a great job.  There was only one complaint – too much food!
The club bike trailer has been rebuilt and was used for the A2O.  Thanks to Tiff for the work and to Colin Calteaux for providing the steel.
Blessed Box
Blessed Box – Stephen and Suzie followed up regarding the proposal of Olivia Mathieson.  They were very impressed with her organization.  Olivia has done an enormous amount of research and there are several organisations prepared to donate food, eggs, milk, etc.  Help Tank are keen to support and she is being provided with free accountancy advice from a professional.
Olivia has already launched a Facebook site and is getting referrals.  The launch of the project is 1 January.  Milton Rotary have agreed to fund $3000 provided it is used in the wider Milton area.
