Bill introduced the speakers:

9/10 Camp in June: Erica presented a slideshow, assisted by Taya, Dom and Leon.  The camp occurred about 20 minutes out of Te Anau, and involved team building activities, walking part of the Kepler Track.  Other activities included archery, fishing (no fish), kayaking, some swimming, rock climbing, mini golf, movies (Deer Wars), waterslide, Gore pool
Gold Coast Senior A Netball: Pippa and Saffron helped Clare report about the International Netball Festival.  Activities included a netball clinic with professional netball players, as well as sightseeing, theme parks (3), Artvo, Outback Spectacular, a beach trip, as well as netball competition - 3 / day over 4 days. A highlight was winning against Kaikoura.
Waitangi Trip - Saffron created a video slideshow, which can be accessed here:

The group of 7 students was accompanied by Clare and Julieanne Mallon.  Based in Paihia for 5 days, the trip started with a school visit in Okaiho, where they experienced a powhiri, ki o rahi, and a trip to the Waitangi Treaty grounds.  On day 2 the group visited Cape Reinga, and they hit the sand dunes on the way back.  Lots of history learning.  The group visited Russel, Pompallier’s and the flagstaff.  The students were able to visit former Tokomairiro High School Principal and Milton Rotary member Glenys Sim, and made good use of her sister’s pool and hospitality.  The students visited Tane Mahuta to end their adventure up north.
These experiences have meant a great deal to everyone involved, and the students and staff or Tokomairiro High School are deeply grateful for the support the club supplied to make them happen.

Barbara thanked our presenters

Robin Hutton
Stan introduced Robin Hutton the Senior Sergeant for the Clutha District. Robin grew up in Dunedin and had a family connection with Waihola. He had most of his holidays in Waihola and his parents moved there when they retired. Robin started policing in 1998 in West Aucland and spent ten years there. He moved south in 2008 and had a variety of roles in Balclutha. Robin then spent two years policing at Dunedin Airport before moving to the Dunedin Central Police. In 2023 Robin became acting response manager for the Clutha District. Today he is responsible for the 24 staff covering the Clutha District. This is 2 short of the optimal number and currently is proving difficult to fill. The Clutha District operates an on call system so it is not a 24 hour Station. The main issues staff are dealing with are family harm incidents, road policing, rural theft, poaching and drugs. Mental health issues are a problem but police policy is stepping back from dealing with this. Another significant change Robin outlined is the use of smart phones in their daily work. They have become the "desk" for staff. In some cases this has been a challenge for older staff. Robin was asked a number of questions about the impact of the prison for policing in the District. He stated it had not adversely increased their work load despite the increase in prison inmates and the increased security level.
