Ruth Ratcliffe - Clutha Youth Worker

Ruth Ratcliffe a Youth Worker for The Malcom Trust was our speaker. Ruth is the Youth Worker in the Clutha District and has been in his role for the last three and a half years. Her focus is on 12 – 24 year olds. During the first year working in the Clutha District she undertook a survey of young people. From 780 responses she found that lack of motivation and direction were the number one concern of respondents. Because of this response Ruth has put together a project for youth in the Clutha District. “ Be motivated, be you “ is being held on April 5&6 2018 at the South Otago Town and Country Club.

Ruth comes from London. After working at the Roxburgh Health Camp she worked at The Otago Corrections Facility as a case manager and teaching drama in the Drug treatment unit. Ruth is still involved as a volunteer at the prison teaching drama. The benefits of the drama are that inmates can see the results of their actions. Drama fosters teamwork and empathy and can be a catalyst for change. Ruth’s dynamic and outgoing personality were obvious and are a huge asset for the work she does.

Rotary Youth Exchange Student – Anna Innisan

What a privilege it has been for us to host Anna in our club as a Rotary Youth Exchange student since July last year. Anna always makes the most of opportunities that come her way and she is always willing to try new things. She is a wonderful ambassador for her country.

Anna has a bucket-list of things she would like to do before the end of her time in New Zealand. If you can help out with any of these, or you are doing something else you think she would enjoy, please invite her along. It would also be great if any of you could invite her for a meal.

A special thank you to Jenny and Bryan Scott, and to Glenn and Lynne Johnstone and their family, for hosting Anna to date. Anna will be going to Susie and Brendan Bearman’s for the last part of her stay here in New Zealand.

The time is going quickly and in no time at all Anna will be heading home. Let’s make the remainder of her time in New Zealand very special. Anna’s email address is anna@tokohigh.school.nz
