President's Message November 25 2024

13th December 2024

Season greetings to you all and wishing you and your families the very best for the upcoming Christmas and New Year.

Thank you to Colin and Lynne Calteaux who hosted the Milton Rotary for the end of year Potluck meal and break up.
There was sadness over the evening due to the tragic and sudden passing of Tiny Agnew.  It goes without saying but the Milton Rotary acknowledge Tiny’s contribution to Milton and wider area.  He was the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship award.  The club offers its sincerest condolences to Wendy and the family.

I attended the Tokomairiro High School Prize giving at the High School on Tuesday evening 10th December 2024.  It was a very well-run event.  The leadership from Principal Vicki Wish and Deputy Principal Bill McClure was very evident.  Well done Vicki and Bill.  The future looks great for the school.
I was privileged to present the Rotary Tertiary Study award to two Students.  They were so close in meeting the requirements that we decided to split the award (Academic, Leadership, Perseverance) .
The recipients were:-Wyatt Mallon and Marcello Mapuranga
Peter and Mary Rose Mallon must be very proud grandparents.  Not only did Wyatt jointly win the Rotary award for Tertiary study, but he also won the following:-
  • Best all-round sportsmen (Jointly with Murphy Lister)
  • Principles Leadership award (Jointly with Makayla Wills)
  • Otago Polytechnic Principals scholarship award
  • JB Roy Prize (Awarded to the student who best fulfils the school motto ‘learning, self-control, courtesy’.
  • Academic Diligence

Year 13 Prize winner in the following categories:-
  • First in art, physical education and hard materials Technology
  • Rosslyn Art gallery Trophy for excellence in visual arts
  • Most valuable Boys Touch Rugby Player
  • Most valuable Senior Boys Hockey Player
  • Greatest contribution to Rugby
  • Personal Excellence in English and Mathematics
Wyatt was also Head Boy and gave his valedictory speech.  He said (Jokingly)  that he planned to be Prime Minister.  I don’t doubt this.

Next meeting in will be on 20th January 2025 at the Kink in the Road.
