President's Message
Jackie Muir
Hi everyone
It has been another very busy week and good to see those of you who were able to make it to Rotary last week - another lovely meal at Forum and a wee quiz in lieu of our speaker forgetting she was going to Queen!
Steve reported that there will be several trips cancelled due to the recent rains but others are going ahead and they are going well - Stewart Island this Sunday.  Thank you to all you dedicated people organising trips and going along as leaders.

The club needs more members so please bring along anyone that may be interested .
This Monday is a BBQ tea at Colin Calteaux's.  BYO bucket including some food plate, utensils etc.  Also bring along your partners and friends.

Conference is looming please keep the 17/18th April free to help and support our District and go on line and register.  See you on Monday.
Jackie

Young people speaking
Our speakers at the last meeting were Patrick Norman and Shawn Taylor.
Both had been supported by the Rotary Club to attend youth development courses - Shawn to Outward Bound in December last year and Patrick to a Blue Light Youth Leadership course in Taupo.

Shawn shared the amazing journey that began for him  on 1 December with a 14 hour bus trip to Picton (Shawn had never been north of Christchurch prior to this) where he stayed in a Back Packers before joining the other young people on the Picton wharf in the morning to catch the ferry to Anakiwa.
After introductions and orientation upon arriving at the Outward Bound school, the young people were put into watch groups of fourteen young men and women.  This group worked together or the  next three weeks.
Shawn shared a number of the activities the group were involved in, with special mention of tramping (two days, one night - they did manage to get lost which added an extra three hours to their trip!) and the kayaking, where they were travelling down rapids.  He was way out of his comfort zone, however, felt an amazing sense of satisfaction when he achieved it.
Paul Harris Fellowship Sapphire Pin Awarded
The Rotary Club of Milton honours one of its own.
Congratulations to Peter Mallon.  Last week, at a meeting of the Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellowship Sapphire Pin was awarded to Peter for hi services to the community.
Peter is an excellent role model to us all in Milton Rotary.  He is a past President of the club and is always willing to help-out when needed.  With knowledge and skills to impart, many friends and Milton folk have been helped by Peter’s abilities and willingness to help.
Peter is a dedicated family person, raising his family in the Christian Faith and always willing to help with school and church buildings and grounds.
Peter also has a great community spirit, shown by the volunteering he has done - delivering meals on wheels, driving people to doctor and hospital appointments and visiting folks in the Rest Home, as well as organising volunteers to help with charity street appeals.
For participating in all projects within the Rotary Club, including tramping club activities, charity collections, holding office, working bees and in particular volunteering carpentry skills for the rebuild at Moore Park and on Ambrym Island, Vanuatu, the Rotary Club of Milton have much pleasure in presenting Peter Mallon with the Paul Harris Fellowship Sapphire Pin.
