Kathy Austvold offered our invocation and Katie Johnson led us in song for the first time since February 7th, with the return of our pianist. One of the songs we sung was K-K-K-Katy, which was very popular during World War I, a "sensational stammering song success sung by the soldiers and sailors." Dean Monke introduced our Student Athlete from M State, Kris Tungseth. Kris is a sophomore at the college, the daughter of Mark and Kathy and played basketball this year; she intends to pursue an elementary education degree. It was announced that Pepe is moving to Keith and Kim Olson's and both the Welles and the Olsons were thanked for being host families to him this year. There was a Rotary Minute Plus Quiz based on the March Rotarian and we answered a majority of the questions correctly! Mike Wollan contributed to the brag bucket to announce he wants a taped recording of Let Me Call You Sweetheart to take to his daughter's wedding in San Francisco. Dave Johnson reminded us that two years ago that day the ice went out on Jewett Lake (quite a difference from this year), while Randy Kempfer donated because he had to leave a little early. Mary Pettit expressed her appreciation for the Rounds and to announce their daughter was having a fourth child. Keith Olson put in a plug for Men of Note. Lynn Brand was then introduced to talk about our Farmers Market, which she and three other people started six years ago. Last year there were a total of 34 vendors who participated. They have a kids day on the first Saturday of every month, sponsored by a grant from the Underwood Unitarian Church, where they give each child under the age of 13 money to purchase an edible product; there are also activities for kids. In addition to produce they have vendors that make quilts, jewelry, bakery items, soap and works of art. This year they will be in front of the museum again but maybe moving downtown next year if a place is found or created with more reliable protection from the weather. Canopies are now required by the State of Minnesota because of the sale of food items and last summer they lost five because of high winds. The first time they will be set up this summer will be the first Saturday in June, presuming the weather does not require a one week postponement as happened last year.
