FERGUS FALLS NOON ROTARY BOARD MEETING MINUTES May 3, 2017 Present: Katie Johnson, Steve Leitte, Ryan Welle, Randy Kempfer, Ben Durbin, Kathy Austvold Guests: Bob Russell Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Randy and seconded by Steve to approve the April 5, 2017 minutes notating one correction - The amount donated to Imagination Library is $560 and not $520. Treasurer’s Report – Randy Kempfer: Randy handed out the Profit and Loss report as of May 1, 2017, along with the Income, Expenses and Accounts Receivable. The main concern is the deficit for our administration expenses, currently about $1400, and how to cover this. Different ideas were talked about and Katie offered to research some ideas we could use to raise money at our spring club social. It was also suggested that a dues increase could cover this gap in future years. Ryan motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Steve seconded it. The motion passed. Old Business: - Grants Update – Katie Johnson – Both grants requests were approved (Library & Community Garden). There will be several steps toward getting the money, including opening an account to deposit the money. This will need to be done for each of the grants. The money will need to be spent before March 2019.
- There is plenty of money available through District Grants so we should be looking ahead to future community projects. Bob suggested one possible opportunity is the Book Mobile that services Perham, Pelican Rapids & Fergus Falls. They will need to replace their bus soon and will need to raise over $200,000 to do so.
Committee Updates Nominating Committee – Ryan Welle is still talking to members about the President Elect opening. The slate of Officers for 2017-2018 to be presented to the Club for a vote President: Steve Leitte President Elect: Vice President: Dan Johnson Treasurer: Randy Kempfer Secretary: Kathy Austvold Director: Lori Larsen Director: Ben Durbin Admin Committee – Kathy Austvold reported Mark Bring is responsible for the programs in June. There are only three because of the Golf Tournament the 2nd week. A few ideas were shared for programs for July and August. Membership Committee – Steve Leitte - Fireside Chat – Wednesday, May 10, 5:15 – 6:15 at Bob and Lois’s
- Report on May 1 membership committee meeting. Lori is working on a report of a very good meeting with 14 members in attendance.
- Spring Social at Laurel Nelson’s w/ Morning Club – Either May 31 or June 7
PR Committee – Open (Previously Adam Harringa). Bob will submit an article to the Journal about the Foundation grants awarded and will also submit the photo from today’s presentation of the money to Mary Phillipe for the United Way. Service Project Committee – Ben Durbin. - Dave Johnson organized the ditch cleaning in April
Fundraising Committee – Randy Kempfer- Past President Ryan Welle will chair the Duck Derby Committee. The date is Thursday, July 13. He will contact the Chamber of Commerce to reserve our spot.
- Rotary Open Golf Tournament – It would be great to have more teams to sign up. Bob suggested contacting Suzanne Demuth, who is the granddaughter of B.K. Soby, to invite her to also visit the club. Ryan volunteered to contact her and Katie volunteers to talk to her business partner Dic Pickett.
Foundation- Follow up - A curriculum to present to Third Grade teachers about the Four-Way Test. Bob ordered the sample curriculum to share with us and it should be here soon.
New Business: - Member change of status – Due to Paul Beithon’s health it may be harder for him to come regularly to meetings. Randy made a motion and Ben seconded it to propose Paul Beithon as an Honorary Member effective July 1, 2017. The motion passed. A new name badge will be ordered for him.
