Our invocation was offered by Keith Olson. To round-up our peach sale, Brian T. reported we donated 25 lugs to community non-profits. He gave us instructions on how to handle complaints of damaged peaches. We are to e-mail him (at brian@emagine.biz) with the name of the customer, mailing address and how many lugs (or a half lug) were bad so a refund can be sent; if you yourself refunded someone, let Brian know. President Katie thanked everyone who contributed their time and effort to the peach sale. It was speculated that we had our first really bad year with the peaches because there was no Rotary Minute Quiz based on fascinating facts for Fergus Falls' favorite, fenomenal, fuzzy fruit that preceded it. This was followed by a Rotary Minute Quiz based on the prior week's Rounds and only one of three questions were answered correctly. Must have distributed the Rounds too early! Deb M. led off the brags and fines, saying that our first host family for our Exchange Student, Brian and Danny, have been amazing in their efforts. Keith O. reported on the birth of granddaughter Nora and that he and Kim were heading to the Twin Cities to be there for the open- heart surgery scheduled for the next morning. Keith also bragged about their 42nd wedding anniversary, noting that a couple years had been phenomenal (there is that word again, spelled correctly). Steve A. reported wife Mung had a safe return to New York City the day before our meeting and was already in the classroom. Josh B. paid for missing some meetings due to a very busy schedule. At that point in our meeting, Danny T. arrived with our exchange student, Cande Musse, from a little town outside of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She flew in to the Twin Cities the prior Sunday and will be speaking to the club after getting some time to adjust to her new surroundings.  Hal Leland introduced our speaker, Jeannie Jensen, to talk about the Fergus Falls Concert Association. Jeannie has been on its board since 1984 and started out by describing herself as a "lapsed" Rotarian, having been a member of the Sunrise Club for many years. The Association was started in 1938 and Myron Broschat was its Executive Director for many years. Jeannie talked about the six upcoming concerts in Fergus Falls, with the first one scheduled for September 27th, and the reciprocal agreements with Sauk Centre, Wadena and Alexandria. You can buy a season ticket to attend all of the concerts at these different venues for $55 per person ($10.00 for students), while a family membership costs $120; single event performances for guests who live outside the Association's membership radius of 50 miles are $20 for an adult and $5 for a student. The Association also gives tickets to music teachers in the area to make available to their students. The materials Jeannie handed out indicated that the six concerts in this year's series range in cost from $4,800 to $9,500, totaling just under $40,000 and averaging $6,400. New this year is a partnership with Don Pablos, Mabel Murphys, Socials Bar & Grill, and Union Avenue Bar & Eatery to offer discounts on the day of each concert to individuals with a membership card. Each October the Association's Board will meet with their booking agency (it was a family business but has now been sold to two individuals who live in Alexandria and Glenwood) to choose the concerts they which to host.
