Ken H. was our greeter and Wally C. offered the invocation. Brian T. announced we are down to 250 undistributed Lucky Duck Derby tickets, with the event taking place a week from this Thursday, on July 11th. Brian also told us we would be receiving three invoices from the Club in the next few weeks: one for the 2023-24 Rotary Minute Plus Insurance, one for meals and one for our Rotary International, District and Club dues. He also provided to each of us a bio and picture of our incoming Exchange Student, Cande Musse from Argentina. That information will be shared in a subsequent bulletin when we are closer to her arrival in late August. The last Rotary Minute Plus quiz for our expiring Rotary year was administered, based on the June Rotary magazine, with one of four questions answered correctly. To recap, three billion children have been immunized since the PolioPlus campaign originated and it is estimated 20 million cases have been averted as a result. China generates 33% of the world's solar electricity and there are 675 million people worldwide without electricity. Jamie L. said we are waiting for word on the Rotary peaches and how much they will cost this year, affecting of course what we will end up charging. We then launched into brags and fines, with Jamie, Wally, Kathy A., Katie, and Ken all contributing so they could thank President Zack for his leadership this past year. Jamie also contributed a scooter buck while Wally encouraged all of us to get tickets for the children's play at The Center for the Arts this past Thursday through Sunday. the play was "Frozen Junior" and two of Wally's grandchildren were in one of the casts. Tim H. told us there were 220 students involved in the production. Ken, during his brag, also told us he was in Sioux Falls the entire prior week and it rained all day, every day. Matt S. punched his card four times, and Zack finished off the bragging telling us his little brother got married and Zack officiated the wedding (it took all of 20 minutes for him to get licensed by Minnesota to do so). President Zack then reviewed the past Rotary year under his capable leadership. We gained three new members and only lost one, so a net gain of two. Those new members are the Bowyers, Cody A. and Holly W., and Zack commented on how Cody worked almost every day of the peach sale even before he officially became a member. Our "biggest accomplishment" was contributing over $86,000 to construction of the Splash Pad and Zack was honored to be able to cut the ribbon at the grand opening. He also noted that the donor wall lists almost every member of our Club as a participant. We did much in the way of hands-on service, including the ditch clean-up, tilling Lake Region's community garden, filling back packs at United Way, raising about $2,000 for our high school speech team by staffing the concession stand at their tournament, and helping out at the Salvation Army on Thursdays. Last but not least was our donating and reading books to those in kindergarten and second and third grades at our local schools. We hosted numerous student guests during the year and were entertained in December with presentations by the Hillcrest choir and both the choir and orchestra from the High School. We had a great year raising funds, netting $7,800 from last July's Lucky Duck Derby (with only 52 tickets unsold) and almost $10,000 from the sale of 792 peach lugs. A special thanks was expressed to the "peach guys:" Keith O., Jamie, Steve L., Cody, Brian, and Zack should be included too. The James Wedgwood performance was a smashing hit, raising about $2,000 for the club. [We also raised just over $2,000 from the rose sale.] Zack also referenced the club visioning journey we have embarked on, looking forward to its implementation. He correctly described us as having fun meetings and concluded by thanking us for the year as president and saying he was honored to be a part of our Club. Zack also assured us he has no plans on leaving and hopes to stay active in the Club going forward.
