As President Lori was absent, our own Steven Leitte filled in, thank you Steve. After the National anthem and Oh Canada our invocation was delivered by Stan Caragnan. Bonnie Denzel led us in a brief round of singing and handshakes were plentiful. Guests for the day consisted of Honorary member Elaine Olson, our very own Lulie, prospective member Kitty Lahti and our newest member Sean Sullivan, Welcome all!!! His Royal Highness PDG Robert Russell III gave an outstanding Rotary quiz today and believe or not ALL QUESTIONS were answered correctly. Way to go!! Others included Mary P for a successful work related fund/food drive. An urgent request from Bob R. for host family recommendations or the exchange program will grind to a halt, let’s not let that happen. Tim H. got to spend some time in a college dorm moving his granddaughter and lamented on the state of agriculture in Iowa and Southern MN, we all wish them well! Editor’s note: As I was driving to choir practice last night at 6:15 along county road #1 imagine my surprise when I saw NO LESS than 11 morning Rotarians cleaning the road ditch. Shall we take a lesson here? Program: Today our program was introduced by Greg D. Anthony Hicks, a 20 year resident of Fergus Falls. spoke about his early life and his desire to find an occupation that would allow him to travel the world on someone else’s dime. I believe he did just that! As a young 20 year old he finished school in agriculture and secured a job selling breeding stock pigs! His adventures spanned many years and the stories of his work and challenges were insightful. (Also seems to me that dealing with pigs makes one drink a fair bit too.) Anthony recounted some of his experiences abroad and the lengthy flights riding in the cargo planes alongside/with the pigs. His work brought him to Wahpeton, ND to the “Bell Farms” under the ownership of Richard Bell. He worked at Bell Farms for many years before he took a management role with the ethanol plant here in Fergus Falls. Along with his duties in business he is also very active in City Government as a sitting council member. Anthony's final words were “I’ve traveled the world on the back of a pig” |
