Kathy A. gave our invocation and then President Katie called on Hal L. to introduce our Student Athletes from M State, three players on the men's basketball team that is undefeated with a record of 9-0. All sophomores and guards on the team, the first to speak was Javin Tindall, from Albuquerque, New Mexico, who will be going on to a four-year school to obtain an engineering degree. Mason Muir, from Seattle, Washington, plans to pursue a sports management major. Yonis Mohamud, from Shakopee, is the captain of the team and had very nice things to say about our club and its members, with hopes of playing in the NBA. Javin Tindall, Mason Muir and Yonis Mohamud Our visiting Rotarians were then introduced, and they included District Governor Kay Perries ("DG"), Assistant District Governor ("AG") Blake Carlson and Sunrise member, Guy Olson. Also joining us was Steve Austvold, Kathy's spouse. Dean M. was then called upon to introduce our program for the day, the Fergus Falls High School Chamber Strings, a subgroup of the Chamber Orchestra. The Strings' goal is to do community outreach. Instructor/Director Craig Peterson told us the group will be performing in Grand Forks and Winnipeg in April and that they have a concert this coming Tuesday starting at 5:00 p.m. The group, consisting of seven girls and two boys, was just formed this year and performed nine selections for us. Craig told us that this is his fourteenth year leading the school's orchestra. We went into bragging and self-inflicted fining once the program finished, with Zach S. leading off to offer a scooter buck and to tell us both that the orchestra performance at our meetings is one of his favorites and that he had an excellent time at the prior night's school concert. Wally C. then specifically referenced his granddaughter, one of Zach's children, being one of the performers and that the concert was terrific. Hal L. spoke of the wonderful young men and women who come to study in our community and the professionals that teach them. Holly W. paid in anticipation of having to leave this week's social early to get to a school concert in Underwood and also to share her nephew just opened Brainerd Lakes Area Glass and would be grateful for any business we might be able to point in his direction. AG Blake Carlson was thankful for being able to join us and wished all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Guy O. told us he was just back from San Fracisco and San Diego where he and spouse celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary; he was happy to return to Minneapolis and get away from the California travel snarls. DG Kay Perries also said she enjoyed her visit to our meeting. Cody O. passed around another Salvation Army sign-up sheet with opportunities on December 17th and 24th. Brian T. said that eight sponsors have given $2,500 to The Magic Event we are hosting in February, with a goal of adding two more sponsors; he also said tickets would make a wonderful Christmas gift.
