Cody O. was our greeter and Jamie L. offered the invocation. Holly Wilson was back with us, this the last time as a visitor. We had two student guests introduced by Dean Monke, both from Hillcrest, Owan Nilsen and Kyle Muhumuza. Kyle is from Uganda, having previously lived in Jordan and Kenya, with his family now planning a move to Ethiopia. He leads his own worship team, plays drums, is in Key Club, played football, plans to play baseball, and works on the yearbook; he plans to become a doctor. Owan is from Connecticut and a second-generation Hillcrest attendee, serves as student body president and is also in Key Club, will perform in the upcoming presentation of The Pirates of Penzance on March 1 and 2 (both 7 p.m.) and 3 (3 p.m.), and in their variety show. He intends to attend college for nursing.  Deb M. led off the bragging, happy that we have identified three host families so we will have an Exchange Student this coming year and also after being out to the Jamestown club the prior day to talk about the Bolivia project and solicit their support; Past District Governor Dave Smette is a member there and he has travelled to Bolivia as has Deb, so she is hopeful aboutthe club's participation. Hal Leland made a contribution (missed his brag - sorry!) as did Kathy Austvold on her just completed trip to India. Mary P. told us about students at the Fergus Falls School of Dance performing at the Someplace Safe fundraising event, getting some exposure to what services it offers. The Rotary Minute Plus Insurance was introduced for this Rotary year. Members will once again be encouraged to give $95 before July 1, 2024, which will be matched by $105 from the Club. The $200 will be split $120 to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation, $40 to PolioPlus (or another designated Foundation program) and $40 to the school build project in Ethiopia. The sign-up sheet was passed around and that will be done again this week. The program included the slide/video show that Jamie L. put together for showing at the Wedgwood performance and then a presentation by Jamie L. and this writer about Rotary on the web. The Rotary International/Foundation website is www.rotary.org, and everyone was encouraged to get signed in on it and explore "My Rotary." |
