Scott S. was our greeter and Jamie L. gave the invocation. David Johnson introduced our Student Guests, all seniors from the high school. Logan Rott served as student manager for the soccer team and also participated in swimming, track, band and choir; his plans next year are to attend UND and major in finance. Clara Stephan is the daughter of Ryan and Sarah and a National Honor Society student who is in tennis, FSA, synchronized swimming and a member of the marching band color guard; she will attend the University of Jamestown next year with the ultimate goal of becoming a physical therapist. Madison Lien is the daughter of Matt and Adrean and also plays tennis and is involved in FSA (as its president) and captains the advanced figure skating team; she will attend NDSU next year seeking a major in agricultural education and a minor in crop and weed sciences. President Zack presented a member badge to Holly Wilson with the classification of Civil Engineering. We were told that on April 24th it is bring your own lunch day and that ditch clean-up will either be on April 20th or April 27th, starting at 9:00 a.m., with the latter date the alternate in case the weather is bad on the 20th. There will be a club social on May 1st at Fergus Brewing from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., but we will also hold our regular club meeting that day. President Zack said that we will engage in club visioning the evening of May 8th from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and that will take the place of that week's meeting. Ken H. again encouraged us to pick up Lucky Duck Derby tickets for sale. Lisa M. said that she was still taking orders for Rotary ribs and announced that Randy K. has ordered the Josh the Otter books and distribution to kindergarten students is planned for May 15th, following our meeting that day. Steve A. started out with our brags, indicating he was leaving for New York to visit his wife; Buzz L. enjoyed a few days in Florida for a great grandson's baptism and to recall that Cal Larson and Gene Porter proposed him for membership in our club; he also referenced the interview of Ben Underwood that appeared in the Daily Journal; Tim H. checked off several marks on his card to announce he will be away visiting his boys in May; Dean M. paid for missing a couple meetings and to acknowledge the work of the Earth Day Committee; Ken H. told us that Dan Malmstrom sent a beautiful tribute to Cal Larson that was in that day's Daily Journal and that he had a great time at the second annual Golden Loon Awards. Dean M. introduced his wife Beth to talk to us about the activities planned for the upcoming Earh Day. While the actual day is April 22nd, it will be celebrated in Fergus Falls on April 27th, at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center, with events starting at 10:00 a.m. We also learned that there is a new Facebook page featuring environmental efforts in Fergus Falls -- just go to Healthy Earth Collective. Betsy Wells then told us about the Great Trash Dash of 2024 which will be held from April 20th to the 27th with teams of four encouraged to adopt a cleanup area on the map at the Fergus Falls Library or by e-mail. Gift cards to local businesses will be awarded for the most trash collected by volume, the strangest item collected and the trash items most artfully arranged and documented. |
