Pete Wasberg gave the invocation and Mike Wollan was our song leader. Guests included David Manning, Gene's son and a member of the Fargo-Moorhead AM Club and Sophie Johnson, Katie's daughter. The following slate of candidates for the 2017-18 Rotary year was presented: President - Steve Leitte; President Elect - Lori Larson; Vice-President - Dan Johnson; Treasurer - Randy Kempfer; Secretary - Kathy Austvold; and Director - Ben Durbin. Keith Olson moved that nominations be closed and a unanimous ballot be case in favor of the named candidates. Tim Hunt seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Congratulations and thank you for agreeing to serve. The effort to find one more director is underway; if interested, see Ryan Welle or one of the officers/board members. Randy Kempfer reported on the B.K. Soby Open held on June 15th. Seven teams played and the event will net about $4,000 for the club, on par with the last couple years. Thanks were expressed to Mike Clark, Josh Heggem, Matt Bucher and one other (I think, but could not write fast enough), and thanks also to Randy! Randy also challenged each Rotarian to sell 20 tickets for the Lucky Duck Derby, to be held on July 13th. There were numerous brags and fines. Dan Johnson reported he an his wife celebrated his fourth anniversary on June 15th, explaining his absence from the B.K. Soby Tournament. Randy reported a son turning six, awakened by his brother storming into the bedroom with twelve balloons and the birthday boy commenting it "feels pretty good to be six." Keith Olson honored his daughters Melissa and Mackenzie's anniversaries to Dan and Christopher respectively, with Christopher expected to be home from duty with the Minnesota National Guard in Lithuania in about a month. He also participated in the Viking Challenge and noted he was "smoked" by President Katie who finished in 52 minutes while Keith completed the course in one hour eight minutes and fifty-two seconds (but he noted he is almost twice Katie's age). Pete Wasberg put in a dollar for missing the golf tournament and to brag about his niece's track team taking fourth in their event at the State meet, moving up from seventh the year before. I wrote down someone bragged about the social at the Nelsons, providing a good chance to meet spouses and get to know other Rotarians better, but I forgot to write down who said that. Tim Hunt explained why he was absent for the social and golf events, visiting family in Massachusetts to see two grandchildren graduate from high school and then on to Virginia to see another son and his family. Paul Beithon reported on celebrating his 89th birthday the week prior. Wally Cole was able to take in a rehearsal for Lion King Junior at the Center for the Arts, describing it as delightful and encouraging everyone to see it. Mike Smith told us to drive by the old library to see the 100 year old roof being removed and maybe also our mayor up there trying to salvage some tile. Finally Katie Johnson put in a dollar to acknowledge all the work Lori Larson has done on the website and to note that her closing President's remarks are posted on the website; Katie also put in another dollar to acknowledge her daughter Sophie had her braces removed that morning, having worn them for two years ten months and 19 days. Well Keith, at least that is longer than it took you to run in the Viking Challenge, and you are probably four times Sophie's age. The program was Bob Russell talking about The Rotary Foundation.
