Kathy Austvold gave our invocation and Keith Olson was our song leader, who had us revisit a song we have not sung for awhile, Stodola Pumpa. For those with a burning curiosity, the literal translation of "stodola pumpa" in English is "barn pump". The song is a Czech nonsense chant often coupled with the motion of pumping a water pump rapidly. I see another song exercise in our future! David Manning from the Fargo-Moorhead AM Club was our guest. Mike Clark encouraged participation in the Rotary Open Golf Tournament scheduled for June 14, and had a handout on the tables explaining the raffle ticket package sales and drawing process, as well as what will be included in the raffle. President Steve reported that he had watered the bushes we planted at the city water tower on Highway 27 and that about 90% of them were budding. The meeting was adjourned so 14 of us could head over and visit the library construction site. Our guide was Erin Smith, joined by Comstock representatives Kevin Kappang and John Bullis. Rotarians who put on hardhats and heard the presentation were Kathy Austvold, Stan Carignan, Wally Cole, Bonnie Denzel, Rod Ebersviller, Dan Johnson, Dave Johnson, Randy Kempfer, Steve Leitte, David Lundeen, John MacFarlane, David Manning, Gene Manning, and Bob Russell. The reconstructed library qualified for a one million dollar grant from the State of Minnesota for its energy efficient design; Erin reported it will be one of the most energy efficient libraries in our climatic zone. The sales tax that will raise six million of the nine plus million dollar project went into effect this past January 1 and is expected to last six years. Erin thanked our local Rotary clubs for providing a $20,000 grant ($10,000 through The Rotary Foundation) to pay for the equipment to be used in the digital maker space. |
