President Anthony called the meeting to order and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and The Four Way Test before Katie Johnson offered the invocation. Anthony then reminded us that we were exactly two weeks removed from the Duck Derby and of the need to sell raffle tickets. Appreciation was then expressed for those who participated in the ditch clean-up last week, those being Wally Cole, Dave Johnson, Steve Leitte, Zach Stach, and Brian Tjaden. Greg Darling led off our brags and fines to announce he attended North Dakota's American Legion Convention the prior week, marking his 30th anniversary of playing string bass and drums for its band. Kathy Austvold said she and her husband Steve visited the North Shore, including the spot where Steve proposed to her 20 years ago; she also indicated her appreciation for Anthony and working with him this past year. Zach Stach bragged about his son finishing high-school while President Anthony was happy his father-in-law was visiting from St. Louis and helping with the children, expressed his love for The Salvation Army and his hopes that there will be a Rotary club that he can join in the next town to which he and family are moved. John MacFarlane said, as a board member, he was happy Anthony would be around for another year. Dave Johnson was happy (?) to report he had sold four of his old tractors, leaving him with 15. President Anthony then reflected on the past year as president of our club, comparing it to 2016 when he was married and ordained, noting that in 2020 they lived through a pandemic, an "interesting" election and the birth of the third child -- he was also promoted to captain. He thought the programs throughout the year allowed Rotarians to keep a pulse on what was going on in the community, both with our businesses (presentations by the Fish Factor 108, Service Foods, and Outstate Brewing) and various non-profit organizations. Anthony expressed thanks to Zach Stach for leading our service activities, noting that what we do as a club matters a lot. He recognized the difficulty of getting together because of the pandemic, that he never wants to serve as president of a Rotary club again during a pandemic, and that he looks forward to what we can do once we our regularly getting together at the YMCA as before. Anthony talked about The Four Way Test being a good barometer for us as we return to normal. Remarks of appreciation were offered by this writer, stating Anthony had the perfect temperament and outlook to lead us through the past year. Anthony was then presented with a Past President plaque and a new badge indicating his 2020-21 presidency. Thanks Anthony for your excellent leadership! |
