The weather and river cooperated and on June 10th we ran our tenth annual Lucky Duck Derby. A thank you to all those who showed up to help or cheer the ducks on to the finish line and back into their off-season habitat, with a special thank you to those who braved life and limb to staff the canoe: Brian Tjaden, Cody Odland and Zack Stach. Brian's preliminary report indicates 776 tickets were sold, raising $7,760, with expenditures of $1,525, creating net proceeds of $6,235. On the income side, there is about $1,900 still to collect from members selling tickets. The first-place finisher was Duck 762, jockeyed by Karl Beck and wearing the colors of Steve Leitte. As a historical sidenote, commentators pointed out it was the last duck to enter the race, having been purchased during Shop Move's Groove activities prior to post time. Only one foolish soul showed up with his duck call to cheer the racers and the crowd with the call still echoing in his ears. Off-season habitat: |
