Club News

Want to make your $10 work for good?
This year, your membership fee is $10 per month less—why not put those savings to work for Rotary? If you’d like your extra $10 to support our club’s Charitable Trust or the Rotary Foundation, just let our wonderful Treasurer, Allan Frost, know.

No deadlines, no pressure! If you don’t opt in, your invoice will simply be reduced. But every $10 helps us make a difference—so why not donate yours today?

Faisal's opening thought quote seemed so poignant to the moment

'Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll
meet you there' (Rumi C13 Persian Poet)

Is the Membership Ginger Group gingering?
Yes, we are!

  • Recently, Faisal hosted a gathering at the Pakistan Ambassador’s residence, where a small group introduced Rotary and RCW to diplomats and their partners new to Wellington.

  • Some members are exploring the revival of our once-popular Skilled Migrant Project. They are drafting a brief for a Minister interested in its potential.

  • Another team, drawing on solid business connections, is planning quarterly after-work sessions for Wellington newcomers.

  • In August, we’ll host a relaxed wine & cheese evening for new and prospective RCW members—an ideal chance to introduce Rotary and our club’s offerings.

We welcome further ideas! If you'd like to join us, we'd love to have your help.

Lifting the Lid update

We are mid-way through the school year, and to date we have supported 176 students with 591 sessions. Experience shows that these figures will increase fairly rapidly in the second half of the academic term.

The Rotary Club of Mount Victoria recently donated $5,000. In addition, applications are being made to funding from the Lotteries Commission and the Frozen Funds Charity. An investigation is also underway if Lifting the Lid would qualify for a Rotary Global Grant.

Adventuring across Aotearoa to support children
5pm this Thursday at BNZ Partners Centre (Level 1, 1 Whitmore St, Wellington)

Join adventurers Huw Kingston and Laurence Mote as they share their warts-and-all highlights from their journey so far on Alpine Odyssey Aotearoa - a 4500km, 90-day, human-powered adventure across New Zealand in an effort to raise vital funds for climate-resilient classrooms in Vanuatu.

Taking a day off to join us in Wellington, Huw and Laurence have been skiing, hiking, and cycling from Cape Reinga on their way to Slope Point. The complete route covers skiing at all 24 outdoor ski fields across the country, along with extensive cycling, hiking trails, and sailing the Cook Strait.

BNZ Partners will be hosting the event. If you are interested in coming along, please RSVP to Jason.cowlam@scnz.org.nz by 28 July.
Clayton Billiards - a success!
Clayton Billiards on the 24th was a success, with Bill Day and William S winning the cup and Neil Matson part of the team that won the Plate. It was a successful event, with many past members in attendance. Shout out to Colleen Singleton, whose billiards prowess improved during the night and she made the finals with Geoff Shaw.
Welcoming new members

We’ve identified a target group for membership - those new to Wellington and seeking out a community to be part of. One group is newly arrived diplomats.

We were very grateful that our member Faisal Aziz Ahmed (High Commissioner for Pakistan) offered to host a function for them at his residence on Friday, 25 July. Over 20 diplomats and their partners were invited, with many attending along with members from our Club.  At the event, we explored how Rotary connects people with their community and with one another, and have invited the diplomats to attend our Club’s meetings and events.
