Club Event: FIFA World Cup Final Live Breakfast
Derek Gill’s bright idea – join the excitement!
Get ready for the ultimate football showdown! Our club is hosting a
special live viewing function for the FIFA World Cup Final in the Morrison Room. Come along to watch the biggest game in sports on the big screen, enjoy a fantastic breakfast, and share the fellowship with fellow members.

Rob the "Hutt"
If you weren’t at our meeting on 6 July, you missed a delightful game of
Guess Who? This week's mystery member turned out to be none other
than Rob Davison!
While Rob doesn't quite resemble a galactic crime lord, he does share a
legendary connection to a famous "Hutt"—specifically, the Orongorongo
kind!
Here is what you might not know about our resident tycoon:
- The Stage: He was once a member of the provincial operatic
society. - The Ride: His first vehicle was a 1929 Model A Ford (though, to
clarify, he didn't buy it brand new in the 1920s!).
- The Skies: He learned to fly—presumably an actual airplane,
rather than soaring like Superman.
- The Hut: As a schoolboy, he helped build a bush hut near
Orongorongo completely by hand. In an engineering twist that would
baffle Jabba himself, they built the cabin backwards - starting from
the roof and working down! It is now regarded as ‘The Ritz of the
Orongorongos’

Celebrating 10 Years of Innovative Young Minds
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Innovative Young Minds (IYM).
Originally started by Rotary Hutt City and the Hutt City Council, this successful Trust now runs residential and online STEMM career
programmes for Year 11 and 12 young women across the lower North Island.
Our club is proud to sponsor Sophie Bourke from Pahiatua College this year. Sophie aspires to become a pilot, and the programme will provide valuable technical exposure to help her future aviation career take flight.
Thank you for your continued support of local youth and this fantastic Rotary collaboration.

Wild polio cases have dropped
District 9940’s End Polio Chair, Chris Tchernegovski, finishes seven
years of service with positive news - 2026 year-to-date wild polio cases
are the lowest since 2023!
Our thanks to Chris for this work. Incoming chair Lyn Connor takes over
to drive fundraising and awareness, with support available for club
initiatives and this positive trend provides strong momentum for
upcoming fundraising initiatives. RCW member Robin van Ausdall is a
member of this District committee.
Rotary's Lifting the Lid Programme - Youth Mental Health Fundraisers
Three fundraisers to support Wellington youth with mental health issues. Our club has donated money to this programme that funds schools to provide youth mental health services to Intermediate and Secondary Schools in Wellington.
The South Wairarapa Rotary Club's fundraiser with all proceeds supporting Lifting the Lid.
Rotary will run sausage sizzle stalls at the Greytown Mid-Winter Festival on closing night, 25 July, from 3 to 8pm. This initiative is the South Wairarapa Club. If any Rotarians from other clubs are nearby, they'd would love you to stop by and say hello.
A cake stall in Greytown with Kuranui College at the Cobblestone Victorian Christmas Market on 18 July, from 10am to 3pm, South Wairarapa hope this will raise awareness of the programme and strengthen their work with the College.
