This week's meeting will be a work project at the Hermantown Outdoor Classroom. We will repair the benches/tables that have warped or broken with new 2x4s and braces to protect against future warping. Bring drills. Lunch will be served. No duties.
On Monday a group of Skyliners organized by new Community Service Chair Garret worked concessions at the Duluth Huskies game. Proceeds go to help North Country Ride, a horse riding program to help challenged youth by learning to ride horses.
Wednesday the 10th at 4:00 the Board will meet at the Bent Paddle taproom and by Zoom. As always, all members are welcome to join us.
The Rock the Skyline committee will meet by Zoom at 4:00 this Thursday the 11th.
Last Friday we had our RYLA student Conner Swor and his family as guests along with Adam Daoust from MPECU, and our regular much appreciated guest Dan Dock. The video by RI President Jennifer Jones focused one of her initiatives, the comfort and caring of Clubs. We all know the importance of this initiative in maintaining relationships and growing our club. Her point about exit interviews was well taken. We need to do surveys when members join to determine what they want from their Rotary experience and continue with regular surveys of club members to see if we are meeting expectations or could do things differently or better.
Conner Swor spoke about the lessons he learned at RYLA especially how to communicate and lead better. He expects to use those newly learned skills this year as a senior at Hermantown High School and he will help to recruit next year's RYLA condidates. Maybe we will see him back for a month during the school year. Very touching that he brought his Father, Mother, and younger brother to see him speak about his RYLA experience. Rotary helps young people learn to become ethical leaders.
Trish Crego brought a potential project to the Club. It is a learning stage/shelter to be built at the Hermantown Community
Center playground. It is a simple 10'x10' roofed wooden structure. A full set of plans is available, and the materials will be provided.
PEACH ALERT We just learned that peaches will arrive a week later than planned. They will arrive on Friday, August 26th. All of our media has been adjusted to reflect the new date, but if you have sold tickets already please notify them that the arrival date is now one week later. Also, please modify your remaining tickets to say that pick up starts on August 26th.
Club Secretary Todd is asking for people who don't have badges to let him know so that we can order badges. It is hard for newer members and guests to be comfortable greeting people without badges.
Brian Tasky is having a big family 40th Birthday party at his home 3639 Ugstad Road on August 13th starting at 1:00. A fun filled day of events. RSVP to Brian 218-390-5225.
July is Rotary Membership Month.
