There will be a meeting this Friday 10/17 noon at the Depot. We will be meeting at Studio 4. Take Elevator A or the Train stairs down to level 1. No Duties this week. We will do Fall Highway Cleanup following the meeting weather permitting. Go/No Go will be sent in an email to the Club on Thursday.
We were really pleased to have Kris Lee with us as she has transitioned from her career in education to grandma duty. So nice to see you.
Our Guests last week were; Student Rotarians from Proctor Vera Robertson and Malikia Brostrom and from Hermantown Madison Zagelemeyer, Downtown Rotarian Dan Dock, Chelsea guest of Tim, and our speaker Leslie Chaplin and her team, Allett Wikins, Sarah Monahan, Breanna Helminski, and Abbigail McCray.
President Kevin reviewed the decisions from the October Board meeting. Mark introduced our speaker Leslie Chaplin, the Chief Clinical Officer for the Minnesota Autism Center. Autism is on the rise and the Center works one on one with young people from ages 3-21. The Center is unusual in its approach. We learned that one of their programs operates out of North Country Ride where we recently restored their pavilion. The clients work on life skills and then ride the horses which we learned were amazingly intuitive about their riders. We learned that one of the occupational therapists received a Rotary scholarship. Thank you Leslie and her coworkers for the great work that they do.
October is Rotary International Community Economic Development Month.
Thought for the Week
"A successful economic development strategy must focus on improving the skills of the area's workforce, reducing the cost of doing business and making available the resources business needs to compete and thrive in today's global economy."
