Happy Thanksgiving!
There will not be a meeting this Friday 11/29 due to Thanksgiving.
Sitting with Dan Dock as the last of the cleanup was finishing this evening at Life House he said, "Skyline always comes through". I said, "Yes we do". Thank you to all of the pie bakers and buyers. The young dinner guests thank you too. Downtown prepares lots of food and the leftovers feed the drop ins on Wednesday and Thursday. There were pies and whipped creme left over, but they will be enjoyed. We delivered the message that there are people in the community who care about them. Thank you.
Kevin brought Great Harvest bread to share with the Club. Thank you Kevin.
John Senich submitted his membership application. The Board voted and will induct him as our newest Skyliner at our next Friday meeting. Welcome John.
Guests last week were Student Rotarians from Proctor Emma McDonald and Ahnika Pampuch, John Senich and his son
Ethan, Downtown Rotarian Dan Dock, Alex's friend Molly, and our presenter Frances Wittenberg.
Adam, Kevin, and Russ attended the Hermantown Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting last Thursday. This was our first Club members involvement in the Chamber. Let's get active and meet the business owners and leaders of the institutions in our community.
Deb paid a happy buck to announce that President Adam had been promoted to VP at MPECU. Congratulations Adam!
We know Frances Wittenberg from her involvement with 23rd Veteran as part of the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival. Frances is also the Northern Minnesota Chapter leaders of FAIR (the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism), on the Board of Directors for the Head of the Lakes United Way,
Event Manage for the 23rd Veteran, and a 21 year veteran of the Air Force. Frances talked about the history of the name 23rd Veteran as at the time 22 veterans per day were dying from suicide. The 23rd veteran was the one who chose life. Their organization is about providing support for veterans who are experiencing trauma. She talked about their fundraisers, the Winter Gala and the Ruck Life. The Ruck Life has opportunities for volunteers to participate in the run and to help. A Ruck is the military term for the gear that is needed for survival for a week. Runners carry the equivalent of a ruck. She is eager to get youth involvement in their programs. Perhaps we can work with our schools. Frances brought a reminder to us of the price that some our service people pay for their service. We should be grateful for their service and the 23rd Veteran's help.
November is Rotary International Foundation Month.
