Thank you to our bench building team after our meeting last week. The changing rooms will now have benches that will be easy to keep clean and will never rust. They are designed by LOLL Designs, a local business using High Density Polyethylene which is partially derived from recycled plastics. Good job Skyliners! 

 

May is Youth Services Month. We gave scholarships to Proctor students and will give them to Hermantown students on June 1. We have three students signed up to attend RYLA in July. Maddie Schmacher learned about Rotary from time spent with our Club and has submitted her Peace Scholarship Application. We provided computers for students in Guatemala. The Kids Garden is ready for planting. The beds are turned over and covered in fabric to limit weeds, and the door opens and latches. A beautiful new sign is being printed. I will send out an email when we know the kids are ready to plant. The Gaga Pit lumber pile has arrived at the YMCA. We are scheduled to build it on June 5th. Tom has some lumber cut for outdoor benches at the Y too. We need to get it on our schedule. We serve youth. We are a fun, casual, and ACTIVE Club.

A couple of weeks ago some Skyliners attended a social gathering for Traci Petrich acknowledging her ALS prognosis. Wade, Traci, and their kids were active when they were members of the Club and they helped even after Wade became a teacher and was no longer able to attend. Suzanne Anderson and her husband Mark are retiring and moving to the Twin Cities this summer. Suzanne joined Skyline in 2021, but she was with Downtown since 2013. Enjoy your retirement and you will be missed. 

 

Guest last week was: our presenter Wayne Gannaway.

Jason introduced Wayne Gannaway, Executive Director of the St. Louis County Historical Society. With the Depot under renovation of the HVAC systems Wayne told us that it was unusual to not have any galleries open for now. Wayne spoke about the challenge of serving St. Louis County which is the size of some states and the 3rd largest County in the Country. There are 6 local affliliates across the County that also exhibit cultural and historic displays. Wayne showed us some of the historic and artistic displays including folk art furniture made from virgin timber white pine, hand-carved figurines by a Swedish immigrant, Minnesotan civil war memoribilia, and the large holding of historically accurate Eastman Johnson paintings of the Ojibwe people. So many treasures for us to learn our history from. Thank you to Jason and Wayne.
