We will NOT meet this Friday 2/2/2026 at the YMCA.
We have a number of volunteers and attendees supporting the UMD Rotaract sponsored TEDxDuluth at the DECC Harborside Ballroom this Friday.
An update on the potential Guatemala project from Kevin. There is a Rotary Club in Antigua that appears to be looking to help Santa Maria de Jesus which is just 6 miles away through the mountains. Kevin was able to arrange a trip to the city. Having a Rotary Club nearby would be a big help in pursuing a Rotary Grant. Kevin will have an interesting story to tell us when he gets back from his "vacation" to Guatemala.
Students from Proctor and Hermantown will be joining us next week. Mark and Tom are visiting Proctor and Hermantown schools this week to drop off and discuss RYLA flyers and student scholarships.
Our guests last week were our speaker Alec Beaulieu and Arlo Leutgeb.
Alec is the Greater Minnesota (Northern MN) Account Representative for the newly renamed Minnesota Star Tribune. The paper is 158 years old and amazingly is growing and very financially successful while many other newspapers are failing. Much of their success can be attributed to their adopting of digital technology when other print papers didn't change fast enough or at all. They have a great story to tell about their presence in the Duluth marketplace with two full time reporters, and Foundry North which is a business related paper. They also do a digital "North Report", and a "Strib Varsity" which covers northern Minnesota High School sports. Thank you to Alec for a great update on the Minnesota Star Tribune.
Rock the Skyline on February 28th at the Shriner's Event Center 5-10:00. Tickets online $35. Lots of great food, cider and beer for "tasting". A silent auction and great music including Big Wave Dave and the Ripples. So warm up your dancing shoes.
March 27th is our next opening for a speaker if you have someone that you would like to invite to speak.
Today was the third meeting of the Twin Ports Rotary Inter-Club Council. There was a full agenda of discusion about how our Clubs can work together with better communication, and shared efforts to support Rotary projects, social events, and fundraisers.
Febuary is Rotary International Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month.
Thought for the Week
"Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict - alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence."
