Welcome to Skyline Rotary

Duluth Skyline Rotary is a member of Rotary District 5580
Skyline Rotary Meets weekly on Fridays at 12:00 PM.
We will be meeting both virtually using Zoom and/or in person at the Duluth YMCA:
Duluth YMCA: 4289 Ugstad Rd. Hermantown, MN 55811 - Driving Directions

This Friday, October 20th we will meet at the YMCA. We will not meet in our usual space. As you enter the Y go straight past the desk to the meeting room behind it. Our presenter will be Russell Habermann speaking on Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Duties are: Invocation - Kris Lee, Greeter - Deb Almirall, Fellowship - Jim Curtis.

Trunk and Trinket will start at 10:30 on Friday. Park on the soccer field side of the parking lot. ECFE and daycare kids and other little trick or treaters will visit until noon when we will go in for the meeting.

Next week on Wednesday the 25th is the Twin Ports Paul Harris Dinner at the Greysolon Ballroom. Social hour is 5:30 with dinner at 6:30. Dick Beardsly is the keynote speaker. We have 14 Skyliners signed up. Please let me know by email or on the sign up sheet if you want pork tenderloin or champagne chicken so that I can register you.

Last week Brad Olson, Scout Executive/CEO of the Boy Scouts of America Voyageurs Area Council and Eric Neff, District Executive Arrowhead/Glacial Trailes were our presenters.  Brad is a Bemidji Rotarian. He recognized the fine work with scouts of both Tom and Susan Meyer. There are 1500 youth in the Council. They start as Cub Scouts when they are K-5, then they become Scouts from 11-18 years old. 22% of the Scouts are girls and there are now 4 girl Eagle Scouts. Only 4% of Scouts make Eagle Scout. From ages 14 through 20 boys and girls can join Exploring which is both a leadership and carer development program. There are many opportunities to support Scouting such as volunteering at camps, joining the Board, and donating. The cost to start Scouting is primarily for equipment at the rate of about $185 which some Scout need help to meet. Thank you to Brad and Jeff for the great work that they are doing with youth.

Last Friday I met at Proctor High School with Josephine Johnson and her father, David. She is planning to be an outbound Rotary exchange student next year. I asked them to join us at our meeting on November 3rd.

October is Rotary Community Economic and Development Month.

Thought for the Week
"The principles of sustainable development say that we should live within environmental limits and that we should enjoy and aspire to a healthy, just and fair society. That's not an either/or, it's a both/and."
