We will meet this Friday 8/7 at the YMCA. We will meet in the room behind the front desk. This will be a lunch social gathering. Peach tickets will be available at the meeting and Mark 218-348-7538 will arrange to deliver tickets to you or your clients starting Wednesday 8/5. Please plan to help at Sam's Club on Peach Weekend. Friday the 14th will be set up, with tickets saying starting at 11:00, but we know that as soon as the truck arrives people want their peaches. We will have pizza lunch under our new canopy on Friday. Saturday and Sunday start at 10:00 AM.
Peaches will arrive on Friday, August 14th on the west side of Sam's Club. They are the same price as last year: $45 for a full lug, and $25 for a half lug. Peaches are available to order on our website skylinerotary.org A facebook page announces the sale and has a link to order from our website. Please direct customers to the website and let them know they can drive up and purchase as well.
The Skyline team for the 8/7 Valley Youth Center Golf outing is Joe, John, Tom, and Mark.
Next Tuesday, 8/11 is our August Board Meeting at 11:30 at the Depot.
Jim is planning a social gathering for October working with Tom Hansen.
Guest last week was Michael Ryth from the Alzheimermer's Association. He spoke about the Walk to End Alzheimer's which will be held Saturday, October 3rd at bthe DECC in Pioner Hall at 10:00. The walk is on the Lakewalk from the DECC to Fitger's and back. This walk is especially meaningful to John as his father was a 30 year Rotarian in Hibbing and now has Alzheimer's.
August is Rotary Membership and New Club Development Month.
Thought for the Week
Many of you know that I write weekly Monday Morning Membership Minutes that go out the district and Club Leaders. I'd like to share this week's Minute.
Our President’s Challenge
One of the most important ways to have successful, vibrant, and growing Clubs is to do meaningful service projects. Our new Rotary International President, Olayinka Babalola, wants us to focus on peace building by making it central to the design of our projects. He asks us to test ourselves by asking, “how does this project create the conditions for lasting peace?”. He asks that we use the Eight Pillars of Positive Peace as our test. Adopting these “Pillars” are a good test for local as well as international service projects. Our new President wants us to talk about peace building as a practice rather than a destination which will help strengthen our Clubs and our Rotary world.
