There will not be a regular Friday 8/29 noon meeting this week at the YMCA, but we will have a social peachfest gathering with music at Duluth Cider 2307 W. Superior Street starting at 6:00 PM on Friday.
There are just a few lugs left so Friday will be your last chance to enjoy this year's peaches as the last ones will be used for the peachfest.
Guests at last week's meeting were: Gus Olson and his parents Jessica and Justin, his sister, and his Grandparents Craig and Maggie Lilia.
There were happy bucks for Tom and Susan Meyer's son's wedding later on Friday. Emily provided us with a team building Fellowship challenge involving toilet paper and red plastic cups filled with water.
Gus Olson thanked Skyline for sponsoring his 11- month outbound exchange trip to Thailand. Gus showed his exchange student blazer covered with the buttons and pins that he collected from his Club visits, Conference, and fellow exchange students. He stayed with two families and we saw pictures of them and their houses. He attended a private school. We saw pictures from his travels, of his school friends, and the very different foods that are native to Thailand. This was an adventure of a lifetime for Gus who is starting college at the U of M in the Twin Cities for a medical profession as an RN or a PA. Many thanks to all Skyliners for supporting an International Exchange Student.
I heard from PDG Kay Biga that the Pachel Foundation she manages will be sponsoring a night at the Duluth Playhouse again this Fall on September 11. The musical will be "Million Dollar Quartet" set on December 4, 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis when Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis Presley had a jam sesssion. This will be free to Rotarians and guests. Be there or be square.
August is Rotary International Membership Month.
Thought for the Week
"Our success or failure will not depend upon the machinery of Rotary or its physical growth, but upon the extent to which Rotary's ideals or objectives are translated into positive, tangible results in personal, business, community, and international life. We shall be known by our works."
