An elevator speech will be drawn up for you to talk about when selling tickets, finding sponsors and getting silent auction items. Hayes ScrivenExecutive Director of the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center.
The Mission of the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center is to preserve and honor the memory of Major Bong and all veterans of World War II as well as subsequent conflicts and to provide educational resources for the Twin Ports area community and beyond.
In an effort to help veterans Hayes has started what he hopes to be annual trips for veterans to the BWCA. This will be the second year that the Center has offered the trip for veterans that are disabled or dealing with PTSD and other specified traumas. “Last year’s trip was amazing, it was one of the better trips I have ever been a part of” stated Hayes Scriven Executive Director of the Center. “We wanted to give back in another way to the veteran community and we were able to do that in a unique way.”
We are aware of the many issues facing veterans today. In an effort to assist in healing and building healthy relationships within our community, we are offering this BWCA trip for veterans. Nothing but fishing, canoeing and camping the entire time. By bringing veterans into the wilderness away from noises and stress, we hope it will help them heal, recover and just relax.
The Center will be taking a small group of veterans up to Ely MN, where they will spend a night at Veterans on the Lake Resort before heading into the BWCA on July 10. The trip is being outfitted by Canadian Waters Inc. The group will return from their trip on July 13 and spend another night at the resort before heading back into civilization.
