HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
Happy New Rotary Year.
This Friday, July 7th we will meet at the YMCA. We will be inducting Emily Marshall into the Club, and re-inducting David Norland. We will watch the video created by Emily of the kids planting their "Spaghetti Garden", and then view a presentation on the Refugee Center project in Warsaw, Poland. It will be a good social meeting. Duties are: Invocation - Mark, Greeter - Chris Sward, and Fellowship - Greg Kaake.
There will be a Dragon Boat Festival event to "Drum up" excitement held this Thursday, July 6th at Earth Rider Brewery 5:30. This is also a pre-party to the Trampled by Turtles concert that evening. There is a $35 entry fee.
Next week on Tuesday, July 11th at noon at the Bent Paddle Tap Room is our first Board meeting of the new Rotary year. Everyone is welcome to join us in person with lunch or by Zoom.
Next week on Thursday, July 13th will be the Skyline Rotary 50th Changing of the Guard at the Pike Lake Golf and Beach Club New Banquet Center 4895 Midway Road. Look to your right for the Banquet Center as you enter the site. 5:30 social hour and 6:00 dinner. Dinner will be a taco bar. Casual as always. Cost is $15. Please invite family and friends. No Duties except for the outgoing and incoming Presidents. There will be no regular meeting on Friday the 14th.
Greg is checking into helping with set up for this year's air show on Friday, July 14th.
Last week our guests were Dan Dock and our presenter Don Monaco.
Suzanne introduced Don Monaco, the owner of Monaco Air Duluth which is a fixed base operator providing fueling, deicing, catering, customs, and mechanic services at the Duluth Airport for recreational and corporate flyers. He purchased the previous North Country Aviation business. Much of his current life is about aviation as he is also one of the 15 commissioners on the Metropolitan Airports Commission. The MAC has a staff of 700 and a $500M annual budget. Another of his flying related activities is with Honor Flights which provides flights for veterans to Washington DC to visit the war memorials. He talked about the tremendous career opportunities that exist in aviation as pilots, mechanics, or air traffic controllers. We also heard about his interests in Broadway musicals and movie making which he termed his investment/donations to the arts. We are fortunate to have such an incredible business leader in our community.
Russ sent out the invitation to play in or sponsor the Valley Youth Center Gopher Golph Classic on Friday, August 4th with 9:30 shotgun start at Nemadji Golf Course.
July is Rotary Maternal and Child Health Month.
